The complex use of microcontrolled equipment (i.e. software-dependent electronic devices) in the digital era often makes modern technology unapproachable for some people or insufficiently exploited for others.Low Cognitive Impact

Mechanical and electromechanical instruments and devices have been part of our cultural heritage for a long time. Usually,we easily learn how to use them in a short time (by simply looking at them and doing some practice): they have a low cognitive impact.

High Cognitive ImpactOn the contrary, software-controlled equipment entered our life few years ago and are all but self-explaining. We strive and spend a lot of time to learn how to use them: they have a high cognitive impact.

Therefore, hardware and software designers are required to eliminate the gap between their products and the world of every day people who use them, not the opposite.
